WOW!!!  Have we been busy Springing Forward!!!
I am more than pleased to announce the formation of our new Social Justice Committee.  Alanna Burke-Sindlinger and Christina Calderon are co-chairing this dynamic new addition to NMATA.  They will be sending out a separate newsletter within the next week to inform you all of our 2018 initiatives.  We will be offering several ways to become active and involved.   Actions that are increasingly more imperative to the well-being of our communities.  I encourage you to join with us and together we can make a positive and healthy difference.
I have lots of announcements for this month’s newsletter that come from various sources.  NMATA is making a concerted effort to be connected with similar organizations in our State and trying to keep you all informed of various opportunities for professional and personal growth.
The announcements are in order of the dates they are happening:
Friday and Saturday, March 23-24New Mexico Counseling Association (NMCA)’s holds its Annual Conference:  New Mexico Strong:  Thriving in the Face of Challenge in ABQ at the Embassy Suites Hotel.  NMATA will be having an information booth in the exhibition hall.  The conference offers CEU’s, networking and can be explored on line at
Monday – Thursday, March 26-29,  The National Association of Social Worker – New Mexico Chapter (NASW-NM) is holding its 38th Annual Conference “Stress, Strengths and The Social Environment“, at the Sandia Resort & Convention Center, ABQ,   FYI:
Saturday, April 7, 2018, 1:00-4:00pm, please RSVP for NMATA’s second CEU offering of the year:  A 3 hour 3 CEU WorkshopCore Art Therapy Directives will be held at 1925 Aspen Drive, Suite 701-A, Santa Fe.  This course is designed to offer core art directives, with directions of when to use, populations they are appropriate for, and ways each is supportive of client progress.  Attendees will leave with a list of 20 great directives, and a wealth of information about the variations and potentials of each.  Attendees will complete two art directives and participate in group process of these directives.
Saturday, April 21,  the day before Earth Day, New Mexico Art Therapy Associationholds its first 2018 Membership Meeting:  “Planting Seeds for Community Growth.” Please mark your calendars and plan to attend.  We will be meeting at the Tesuque Pueblo Farm, Rural Route 42, Santa Fe, NM 87506. We will begin at 10:30 with art-making and proceed into a furnished lunch; with our business meeting to follow.  We have a lot of exciting things to share and opportunities for us all to be engaged with each other and our communities. We enthusiastically encourage you to attend and bring a friend.

Saturday, April 28, 1-4pm, New Mexico Sandplay Society (NMSS) is presenting its next CEU Dialogue: “Wolf as Archetype: The Many Faces of the Wolf in Sandplay”  at Monte Vista Church, 3501 Campus Blvd NE.  They have a call out for membership renewal  FYI:
Saturday, May 12, The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is hosting itsAnnual Walk in ABQ.  More information about this to follow in the upcoming letter from our Social Justice Committee.  Please consider how you can participate. NMATA will have an interactive booth during the walk and a walking team you can join.  FYI:
Saturday, June 9Albuquerque Pride is hosting PrideFest in ABQ at Expo New Mexico. NMATA will be hosting a booth with interactive art activities.  Plan to come, make-art, and have fun showing support.  FYI:
Thursday – Sunday, August 2-5Northern California Art Therapy Association (NORCATA) is holding its 16th Annual Conference, “Artistic Pollination:  Community Art Promoting Social Resilience” in Rohnert, CA.  FYI:
September 28 – October 8 is the 10th Annual Love Armor Project hosted by the New Mexico Arts and the Department of Cultural Affairs in Santa Fe.  NMATA will be presenting a day long interaction with the public about art therapy and the military.  This is still in the planning stages and will likely include various workshops and presentations.  Please contact if you are interested in presenting and supporting this event.  The day of our presentation is tentatively scheduled for Friday, Oct 5.

We continue to add events, partnerships, and opportunities for our members.  As you can see, we are working hard to revitalize our connections, presence and engagement for you our members and our community.
Your NMATA will be updating our website too, in next couple months to reflect and track all of this; including like organizations, employment ops, CEU offerings, art and fun gatherings, committee participation potentials, Social Justice Initiatives and much much more.  We anticipate a new, refreshed and cleaner presentation.
NMATA is still working toward Art Therapist Insurance Parity Legislation.  We have a plan and will be offering more information about this and all of our initiatives at our Membership Meetings.
So please consider attending these meetings.  Tell your friends or forward to others who may be interested.  We invite students and colleagues and any NMATA friends to come and contribute.  We are changing in some very dynamic ways and we invite you to bring your Light, intention, and energy to help us grow and be able to do all we can envision.
